LEAP is piloting new models of lifelong learning in communities by blending training features such as:

  • Coaching: for groups by workshop sessions; for individuals by phone and e-mail
  • Guided self-study materials for personal, business, or community development
  • On-site facilitation in using technology to access lifelong learning
  • Mobilizing community resource networks to address local and regional needs

Why LEAP? Despite the presence of numerous agencies devoted to increasing employability, there has yet to emerge a clear methodology for delivering personalized support to people in rural and remote areas. LEAP provides the opportunity for community organizations to collaborate with a non-partisan sponsor (3ci - Carleton Centre for Community Innovation) in the development of such an approach.

3ci recognizes that value is only generated by the exchange process inherent in knowledge mobilization. It provides resources for shared content design, development, and delivery in regional pilot projects, and also coordinates the evaluation of these approaches and their benefits to participants. As "enablers" of lifelong learning, the LEAP team is working on ways facilitate this exchange through Creative Commons licensing of content, and Wiki-based distribution.
