Community Learning Centres

Community Learning Centres (external link) (CLCs) are partnerships based out of English-language schools in Quebec that provide a range of services and activities, often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of learners, their families, and the wider community. Their aim is to support the holistic development of citizens and communities. Many CLCs are equipped with videoconferencing equipment and connectivity to support networking and the sharing of services. The delivery of the LEAP program to CLCs in the Lower North Shore is a demonstration of how these facilities can be used to link with outside providers of training and community development. This is especially important to rural and remote communities which on their own often lack sufficient numbers of adult learners to host programs that are regularly available in urban areas. In a network, the numbers can grow, as well as the opportunities for peer exchange and learning.
