Welcome to the LEAP Program!

If you've gotten this far, you are already someone who is willing to take a chance and ready to make a change. These are two of the most essential skills for lifelong learning, and they will certainly will benefit you throughout the program.

Along with these learning modules, a major component of the LEAP program is the individual coaching that every participant receives. You and your coach will work together to find out which LEAP lessons are most suited for your immediate plans. The program is flexible and often challenging, yet it allows participants to explore their own interests, no matter what they may be.

The content of the lessons will help you figure out what the term “entrepreneurial” means to you. Does being entrepreneurial simply mean starting up your own business? Does it include developing new workplace skills? Does it mean improving on personal and social behaviour? Could it even involve stepping up to take part in projects that support your community? LEAP participants have discovered that being entrepreneurial can actually mean any or all of these things.

Because the concept of entrepreneurship can be so broad, you'll choose from a menu-style selection of lessons that reflect the skills and interest areas you need to work on to reach your goals. You, the learner, take ownership over what you personally want to do to succeed.

Although the LEAP content is divided into separate modules, it's also very much interrelated. For example, if you're working on a community project, taking a look at the marketing lessons in the business development module may help you out with new ideas for outreach (and vice versa).

Browse through some of the lessons, and make sure to always ask yourself: How does this information help my specific needs? Search around, question, comment, discover, add your own thoughts, but most of all, have fun with your learning!

LEAP developing Entrepreneurship "Boot Camps" for Canadians over 50

With the slow recovery from economic recession, unemployment rates for middle-aged Canadians are at an all time high. Thousands of workers in the 50+ age group have been laid off, many from long-time jobs. The pension crisis has made early retirement impossible for many. A substantial number of older unemployed workers are now unable to find work and are left with little means for making a living. Entrepreneurship and self-employment is an increasingly viable alternative and second career option.

In response, the LEAP team is developing an intensive Entrepreneurship Boot Camp that allows older Canadians to come in with an idea and leave with a plan for kick starting their business ideas.
